Pair of vintage bookends by Grammes featuring a classic Japanese motif of two red birds perched in a branch before a silver moon (ca. 1950s, USA).
Composed of brass-wrapped semi-cylindrical wooden forms with red tops and black lacquered bases decorated using enamel and metallic inlay, all supported by brass bases.
There is wear consistent with age/use present (light lacquer losses - namely above the silver moon on one of the bookends) along with minor edge loss to the top and natural patina to the unpolished brass.
Engraved signature present to both bases.
