These sticks were introduced in 1897 to help celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria for her 60 years on the throne at that point. Set was to the best of my knowledge designed and made by John Clews of Birmingham, England. These were made in 3 sizes, the Ace of Diamonds, the King of Diamonds and the Queen of Diamonds. Kings and queens can be found, Aces are very difficult to find! The set remained popular even after her death and the added the Prince and Princess of Diamonds. Similar sets were made by other makers and worded differently such as, "the Diamond Queen", instead of "the Queen of Diamonds", as these titled. Sticks are 11 1/2" tall and the bases are 4 1/2" square. These are substantial looking so they make a statement and have an interesting story to share with family and friends. This pair of sticks still have their ejectors or push ups in place and working freely. There are a couple of small dark spots on the top of 1 of the bases, this can be seen in the 4th photo. See less
