This vintage etching, signed on the plate by Piranesi, belongs to the celebrated Carceri d'Invenzione series, the pinnacle of the 18th-century master's visionary neoclassicism. The work stands out for its majestic, fantastical architecture, where powerful arches, ropes, and complex construction machines create an evocative setting.
The strong chiaroscuro contrasts enhance the spatial depth and meticulous attention to detail, typical of the artist's engravings. The sheet displays a natural patina with light foxing and includes a blind stamp on the lower margin. Framed in natural wood with solid rear paneling, this antique work represents a refined collector's item, perfect for enhancing a prestigious study.
