A striking example of traditional Ethiopian basketry, this sculptural vessel features an elongated silhouette, a narrow open top, and intricate tight handwoven plant fibers. Raised bands of twisted fiber encircle the body, emphasizing its organic form and remarkable textural depth. Naturally developed brown and deep umber tones, darkened through age and exposure, lend the piece an earthy, timeworn character. Both utilitarian object and sculptural work of art, it brings a sense of history, material richness, and understated authenticity to an eclectic interior or curated collection. From the Phillip and Marjorie Oderberg collection. See less
