This vintage hand-painted glazed ceramic monkey teapot presents a playful, figural silhouette, with a round, domed body modeled as a woven straw basket and a monkey draped across its surface. Crafted from ceramic in the majolica tradition, the body is molded with fine, closely ribbed lines in a warm marigold yellow. A bundled-straw spout rises at one side, tied with a band and trailed by sprays of emerald palm fronds. The monkey’s arms and legs wrap around the vessel in a relaxed, sprawling pose, their fur incised with fine, hair-like texture in glossy chestnut brown. He wears a cobalt blue bodysuit scattered with coral-red blossoms, and his long, curling tail forms the strap handle. The lid is the monkey’s head, with a pale, cream-white face, almond eyes, tufted brown side whiskers, and a green finial perched on top like a tiny topknot. The saturated glazes pool and shine with a rich, jewel-like depth. Witty, colorful, and full of character, the teapot recalls the whimsical menagerie wares of Victorian majolica.
Display this teapot on a kitchen shelf, sideboard, tea tray, or dining table, or use it to pour tea on festive occasions. It complements Boho, Chinoiserie, Eclectic, Grandmillennial, and Cottage interiors. To care for it, hand wash gently with mild soap and warm water, avoid soaking, dishwashers, and sudden temperature changes, and dry thoroughly, taking care with the lid and finial. The teapot measures 10.5 inches (267 mm) wide, 6.25 inches (159 mm) deep, and 7.25 inches (184 mm) high. Condition is very good, with a bright, intact glaze and paintwork, minimal signs of wear, and no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Add this delightful piece to your collection today.
