This exquisite vintage Chinese porcelain box is a beautiful example of traditional Doucai (contrasted colors) craftsmanship. The domed lid and lower body are finely hand-painted with vibrant, continuous motifs of gourds, vines, and various fruits.
The colors are rich and varied, featuring vibrant greens, yellows, aubergine purple, and iron red against a creamy white background. Doucai technique, which involves outlining designs in underglaze blue and filling them with overglaze enamels, is executed with great skill here.
This round box, often used as a fruit box or a vanity container, is a highly decorative and collectible piece. It would make a sophisticated addition to a display cabinet, a vanity table, or as a striking piece of Asian decor for your home.
