A spectacular, turn-key vintage 1980s postmodern demi-lune lounge set consisting of two curved-back chaise lounges and a coordinating center coffee table / ottoman. This rare, highly architectural set is constructed with heavy-duty structural rattan wood poles wrapped in a thick, chunky split-rattan core weave, exuding the iconic high-end aesthetic of Wicker Works, Henry Link, or Michael Taylor.
The standout feature of this set is the pristine, original 1980s upholstery—a crisp white, ultra-soft brushed cotton ground accented with a gorgeous abstract pastel brushstroke print. Sourced directly from the estate of the 92-year-old original owner, the extensive collection of matching cushions and accent throw pillows was stored exclusively indoors in a climate-controlled environment, beautifully preserving their rare, plush condition.
The seat decks utilize authentic, commercial-grade Vargas clamp-in elastic tension bands for premium lifelong support. Highly versatile, the chaises can be pushed together to form a monumental curved crescent conversation lounge or split apart as floating independent lounge chaises. The heavy rattan frames have been cleaned and touched up with a fresh stain. The original Vargas tension strap system is completely intact across both pieces; however, one chaise features some historic, practical black strap reinforcement added underneath by the previous owner to add firmness (currently fully functional as-is). The original, ultra-soft brushed cotton fabric remains wonderfully vibrant. True to age and authentic estate use, there are a few localized surface stains on the white ground that did not fully lift with a mild cleaning, one single small hole on a seat cushion surface, and a minor seam separation on the edge of one throw pillow.
