This 120 year old sink is in excellent overall condition with glossy white porcelain and the original J.L. Mott Ironworks overflow grate, stopper, and flange. There are very few blemishes present for the age, so few that we tested it with acid that eats away at any coating applied over the porcelain and did the "coin test" where the side of the sink is tapped. It was found that it is all original, as the acid did nothing but clean the porcelain, and the coin produced a ding that vibrated over the whole piece as opposed to just a thud if it had been recoated. The sink has been thoroughly inspected in a search for any damage or excessive wear. As this sink is in original condition, the porcelain has tiny impurities in the form of dark specks. Most all of these were too small for the camera to capture, but if there is a blemish seen that is not mentioned, then it is a product of the manufacturing process. Top to bottom details: The top of the backsplash is very good with barely a scratch to be found, and the only very slight chipping is located on the back edge. This is minimal and will be concealed by the caulking when the sink is installed. The horizontal surface of the back down to the deck is in excellent condition with no wear or damage, and it has a shiny finish. The water overflow grate, chain stay, and chain are also in very nice shape, and the stopper is showing its age some. The horizontal surface where the faucets will reside, and running around the basin is completely free of chips and is virtually scratch free. There is very slight wear at the back corner, and the rest is good. The raised area around the outside is also fine, with only a couple of fine scratches and no chips. The interior of the basin is excellent on the vertical sides. There is light (for the age) wear at the bottom and a thin "line" in back of the drain. The (J.L. Mott) flange has a little wear and is in good, usable condition. The entire vertical outside of the sink is excellent overall. The only spot found to point out is an area on the front where it looks as though it was cleaned with something too abrasive that slightly scratched it. This is very shallow and can only be seen from certain angles. All is fine down to the bottom edge, where there are few small chips present. The underside of the sink is virtually corrosion free. It was cleaned up, revealing different paint colors, most of it being metallic gold "for whatever reason". A quick coat of paint was applied to clean up the appearance, and a little of the gold was left at the back to show that it is not rust. Please see the pictures for further details.
