Set of 5 Antique Japanese Blue and White Porcelain Rectangular Dishes, Meiji Period, 8"
Description:
A matching set of five hand-painted Japanese blue and white porcelain dishes, circa 1890 to 1920 (late Meiji to early Taisho). Each has a central panel with a stylized mountain, possibly Mount Fuji, with pine boughs and bands of mist, in rich underglaze cobalt. The inner border has diamond cartouches with the characters for good fortune and longevity (fuku and kotobuki), alternating with roundels of plum blossoms and waves. Sprigs of bamboo are painted on the outside walls, and each dish stands on a recessed, unglazed rectangular foot rim.
Use them as sushi or appetizer dishes, vanity or catchall trays, or hang them as a graphic group on a wall.
