Detailed Description & History
Age & Period: Dating strictly to the 1940s (the World War II and immediate post-war era), these ornaments feature traditional European mouth-blown glass techniques used primarily in Lauscha, Germany, and parts of Czechoslovakia.
Mercury Glass Body: Crafted from delicate, ultra-thin blown glass silvered from the inside with a bright mercury-style reflective finish that glows under light. The surface is detailed with embossed, pebble-textured molds to define the plumage and wing outlines.
Hand-Painted Finishes: Decorated with vibrant, multi-tone translucent lacquer dyes including deep crimson red, rich emerald green, bright cyan/teal, golden yellow, and a rare dark silver-black colorway. Accentuated with fine glitter stripes along the wings.
Spun Glass Tails: Each bird is fitted with a traditional, intact bundle of delicate spun glass (fiberglass) filaments set tightly into the tail end—a fragile feature from the 1940s that rarely survives intact.
Clip-On Base: Attached to original 1940s-era spring-metal legs and clips designed to anchor the birds directly to tree branches.
Pricing Breakdown
Price Per Bird: At a total lot valuation of $500+, each individual ornament is valued at approximately $50 per bird (based on a set of 10).
