This is a set of 2 French antique fine stipple engravings that are hand colored and date to 1821. We recently purchased a small grouping of these. 200+ year old images! See others in our shop and message us if you are interested in multiple sets. They were designed to document agriculture and horticulture for the purpose of scientific studies for cultivation and improvement of fruit trees. Zoom in to see the plate edge markings. (These are more visible from the rear side of the image.) Hand colored engravings are quite RARE to find as a collection. These are very clean and have strong vivid color. Note the depth of detail and quality of the leaves, fruit and branches. They are by Louis-Claude Noisette (1772-1849) . Noisette was a horticulturist and botanist. His most famous work was Le Jardin Fruitier, a history of fruit trees, from which these images came. These grapes are Muscat blanc and Muscat rouge. Each plate is numbered on the top. Each grape variety is identified on the bottom. The image size is approximately 7.5 x 10 inches. Image frame is approximately 6 x 8. See less
