The rectangular top provides a generously proportioned and practical surface while showcasing the natural character and attractive figuring of the oak. A single drawer is positioned beneath the top, providing useful concealed storage and retaining its original brass handles, which complement the warm tones of the timber and enhance the authentic period character of the piece. The table is raised upon finely turned legs united by a substantial supporting stretcher, providing excellent strength and stability while creating a beautifully balanced traditional silhouette. Particularly appealing is the solid oak, displaying pronounced natural grain and rich colour throughout. Centuries of age and use have developed a mature patina that gives the surface considerable warmth, depth and individual character. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 18th-century origin. A versatile and characterful example of early English furniture, suitable as a side table, lamp table, occasional table or compact writing table within traditional, country-house or contemporary interiors.
