The mask has been carefully hand carved from hardwood, with graceful symmetry and finely defined facial features creating a calm, contemplative expression. Detailed carving throughout the elaborate headdress adds further depth and decorative interest. The polished timber has developed a rich warm patina, highlighting the natural grain of the wood and enhancing the sculptural quality of the carving. Its design shows strong stylistic influences associated with the traditional Balinese and Javanese carving traditions of Indonesia. The mask is attractively mounted against woven matting and presented within a solid wood frame, transforming it into a substantial decorative wall piece ready for display. An appealing example of Indonesian decorative carving, equally suited to an Asian art collection, eclectic interior, gallery wall or contemporary interior design scheme.
