Measuring approximately 78 cm across and weighing more than 33 lb, this is a particularly substantial period light designed to command attention within a large interior. The chandelier is constructed around a strong central brass column, supported by five structural cross arms and an elaborate heavy-gauge brass cage. Five beautifully formed swan-neck arms radiate outward, each supporting an original hand-moulded tinted glass bowl upon a decorative cup-form gallery. At the centre is a large matching tinted glass plafonnier bowl, suspended beneath the structure and terminating in an ornamental brass finial. Together with the five surrounding shades, this creates an impressive six-light arrangement and a particularly rich illumination when lit. Above, five upright architectural supports converge to form a dramatic crown-like superstructure, leading to a substantial ribbed funnel-form bronze gallery and height-adjustable bronzed-brass ceiling plate. The combination of sculptural brasswork, symmetrical geometry and softly tinted glass gives the chandelier considerable presence. Its monumental proportions make it particularly suited to a large entrance hall, dining room, staircase, hotel, restaurant or grand period interior.
