Apollo is depicted according to the idealised classical canon, with harmonious facial proportions, a serene expression and abundant curling hair arranged around the head. The sculptural treatment captures the timeless elegance of ancient representations of Apollo, whose image came to embody ideals of beauty, harmony and artistic perfection. The blank classical eyes and softly modelled features reinforce the sculpture's antique character, while the detailed curls provide depth and texture. The bust is raised upon a contrasting polished variegated marble plinth, giving the piece a substantial and architectural presence. Produced during the 20th century as a decorative interpretation after the Antique, the bust reflects the enduring influence of Greco-Roman sculpture upon European neoclassical interiors and the tradition of museum reproductions. An impressive decorative sculpture with strong classical presence, equally suited to a traditional library or study, a neoclassical interior, or displayed as a sculptural focal point within a contemporary setting.
