This fine round box dates to around 1900 and made by Esme Samson France.

This charming porcelain trinket box embodies the height of Rococo revival refinement and is a Meissen style romantic, elegant, and intricately detailed. Collectors love the combination of Watteau-style figural painting, turquoise scale decoration (Schuppenmuster), and gilt-metal mounts, all of which resembles luxury porcelain from the mid-1700s, this box reflects the same spirit of grace and craftsmanship that captivated European courts.

The lid features a beautifully detailed pastoral scene of an elegantly dressed couple in a landscape, painted in soft, delicate colours and highlighted with gilt scrolling decoration. The sides of the box are decorated with a turquoise scale pattern (Schuppenmuster) bordered by intricate gilding, one of Meissen’s most admired decorative styles of the period.

The interior is glazed white, and the hinged mount is in gilt metal with a secure clasp. The underside is marked with the Esme Samson underglaze Mark.
