Hancock & … Read more A fine george v sterling silver ink stand or standish, hallmarked london 1911 and made by c. F. Hancock & co., distinguished by an unusual central enamelled plaque depicting an early biplane. The substantial silver stand is elegantly proportioned and raised upon four ball feet, giving the piece a balanced and refined presentation. At its centre is an oval enamel plaque featuring a biplane, an especially evocative motif from the pioneering years of early aviation and a fascinating decorative feature for a piece dating to 1911. The stand retains its original cut glass liners, beautifully complementing the polished sterling silver and adding further texture and visual interest to the composition. All components bear matching london hallmarks for 1911 together with the maker’s mark for c. F. Hancock & co., whose mark was registered during the period 1898–1932. Particularly substantial in construction, the stand has a net sterling silver weight of approximately **963 grams** and a combined gross weight of approximately **1,815 grams**. Presented in very good antique condition with a beautiful bright patina. There are minor surface marks consistent with age and use, but no noted damage, bruising, chips or repairs.
