And designed for use with the british ordnance qf 6 pounder anti-tank gun. Constructed principally from brass and steel, this purpose-built optical instrument retains its original military character and finish. The body is clearly marked with its tel. Signtg no. 22d mk idesignation, manufacturer's details and the british military broad arrow acceptance mark. The telescope incorporates its original internal sighting reticle with crosshairs and an r lead indicator, designed to assist the gunner when aiming at moving targets. An extending sun shield further demonstrates the practical considerations incorporated into british wartime optical equipment for use under varying battlefield conditions. The surface displays substantial age-related wear, rubbing and patination consistent with military service and prolonged use. Rather than detracting from the piece, these signs of age contribute considerably to its authentic utilitarian character. An evocative example of british wartime optical engineering and an increasingly collectible piece of second world war military history, particularly appealing as a historical object, industrial decorative piece or addition to a collection of british militaria and optical instruments.
