Beautifully proportioned and weighing over half a kilogram of solid silver, the piece combines traditional english silversmithing with the cleaner decorative character of the mid-20th century. ㅤ the generously proportioned circular bowl is finished with an elegant serpentine border, creating a softly undulating silhouette around the upper rim. ㅤ the gallery is particularly attractive, finely hand pierced with symmetrical fretwork interspersed with stylised decorative motifs. The openwork construction introduces a sense of lightness to the otherwise substantial silver body while creating attractive patterns of light and shadow. ㅤ the bowl is raised upon a plain stepped circular pedestal foot, providing a strong architectural foundation and giving the piece an elegant elevated profile when displayed on a dining table or sideboard. ㅤ the polished sterling silver surfaces retain a beautiful bright patina, allowing the intricate pierced decoration and serpentine outline to remain the principal visual features. ㅤ produced by viner’s ltd under emile viner, the bowl carries sheffield hallmarks dating it precisely to 1962, during the reign of queen elizabeth ii. ㅤ with a net silver weight of 526 grams, this is a notably substantial example of british table silver. It remains in excellent condition, free from damage, splits, bruising or repairs, and has no engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms. ㅤ an elegant and versatile piece of mid-century english silver, suitable for serving fruit, bread or cakes or simply displayed as a decorative centrepiece.
