The substantial stand features a gadrooned serpentine border and a finely hand-pierced gallery decorated with symmetrical fretwork. Two detachable inkwell holders repeat the intricate pierced decoration, creating a beautifully coordinated composition. The centre incorporates a bowled pen rest, while the stand is elevated upon four elegant cabriole legs embellished with scrolling motifs. Complete with its original pair of hobnail-cut glass inkwells, each fitted with a hinged sterling silver flip-top cover. The combination of brilliant cut glass and polished silver gives the piece an impressive decorative presence. All silver components bear matching Birmingham hallmarks for 1992. The silver base has a net weight of approximately 416.8 grams, while the combined sterling silver content is approximately 456.8 grams. The complete stand with inkwells has a substantial gross weight of approximately 711.5 grams. Presented in very good vintage condition and appearing to have seen little, if any, use. There are no noted bruises, chips, damage or repairs, with only minor age-related surface marks. A small casting flaw from the original construction is present on the rear cabriole leg, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs. Free from later engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms and retaining a beautiful bright patina. Clean and ready for use or display.
