The case is distinguished by its crisp engine-turned decoration, giving the silver surface an elegant geometric texture characteristic of the period. The rectangular case displays a restrained and sophisticated design, with the precisely executed engine turning creating a subtle interplay of light across the polished silver. Its clean lines and geometric ornamentation embody the increasingly streamlined aesthetic that defined British decorative arts during the 1930s. John Henry Wynn Ltd. was a Birmingham silversmith, and the combination of an identifiable maker, precise 1939 date and solid silver construction gives this example particular appeal to collectors of British silver and Art Deco objects. Originally designed as a gentleman's cigarette case, the piece can now be appreciated as an elegant decorative box, collector's object or example of pre-war British silversmithing. Its compact proportions make it particularly suitable for display alongside antique silver, gentleman's accessories and other Art Deco decorative objects. A handsome example of late 1930s British silverwork, combining solid sterling silver construction, accomplished engine-turned decoration and timeless Art Deco styling. Maker: John Henry Wynn Ltd.
