The dish is distinguished by its elegant scalloped outline, creating a more sculptural and decorative profile than a conventional circular plate. Its surface is finely hand-painted with figural decoration associated with the Wu Shuang Pu tradition, depicting celebrated personalities from Chinese history. Wu Shuang Pu imagery became an important decorative theme on Qing dynasty porcelain, combining historical portraiture with calligraphic and literary references. The intricate figural decoration gives the dish considerable visual and cultural interest while demonstrating the accomplished porcelain painting associated with the period. The unusual shaped border beautifully frames the central decoration, while its generous proportions give the piece excellent presence for display on a stand, within a cabinet or as part of a collection of Chinese porcelain and Asian works of art. The dish retains authentic evidence of its considerable age. There are two hairlines and several small chips around the rim which have previously been filled. Despite these historic imperfections, the piece presents attractively and remains in good antique condition overall.
