The substantial porcelain body is decorated in the classic blue and white palette, with rich cobalt-blue decoration contrasting beautifully against the luminous white porcelain ground. Its generous proportions provide an expansive surface for the detailed decoration and give the vase considerable presence when displayed. The elegant form and traditional colour palette make this a particularly versatile decorative object, equally suited to a classical interior or as a contrasting statement piece within a contemporary setting. At almost half a metre tall, it works particularly well on a console, pedestal, substantial sideboard or as part of a collection of Asian decorative arts. The vase is presented in good condition with general age-related wear. There is a firing fault to the base, consistent with the manufacturing process, while the remainder presents attractively. A substantial and highly decorative example of Chinese blue and white porcelain, combining impressive scale, traditional craftsmanship and enduring visual appeal.
