Cast in solid bronze, the figure depicts Taurus standing four-square with one foreleg slightly advanced, capturing the solid weight and compact musculature of the animal in a bold, stylised manner. The entire surface is worked with an incised, cross-hatched patterning that suggests the rough texture of the bull's hide. Deep folds are cast across the thick neck and heavy shoulders, while the tail curves down naturally to hug the flank. Prominent contours around the haunches and ribcage emphasize the sturdy build of the casting. Contrasting surface treatments define the character of the piece. The body carries a dark, rich brownish-black patination, offset by selective polishing back to bright bronze along the tips of the horns, the broad muzzle, and each hoof. This classic two-tone metal finish is closely associated with Austrian modernist animalier figures from the 1950s, particularly the whimsical yet structured metal designs produced by Walter Bosse in Vienna. Measuring approximately 17 cm in length and 11 cm in height, the sculpture is well-proportioned for tabletop display or use as a substantial desk weight. It stands securely on all four hooves without the need for an integral base. The bronze remains in very good vintage order throughout, displaying gentle age-appropriate surface rubbing that softens the raised edges and enhances the underlying metalwork. See less
