Combining elegant openwork silver construction with a dark ebony plinth, the piece is a distinctive example of the specialised dressing-table accessories fashionable during the edwardian period. ㅤ the stand features an elegant upright silver stem supporting an arrangement of openwork wire holders designed to accommodate multiple hat pins. The delicate wire construction gives the piece an attractive sculptural quality while retaining its original practical function. ㅤ the polished silver stem rises from a circular ebony plinth, the rich dark tone of the wood creating a particularly effective contrast against the bright sterling silver. ㅤ the composition is completed by a broad stepped circular weighted base, providing stability while giving the stand a balanced architectural profile. S. Blanckensee & son ltd was an established british jewellery and silversmithing concern producing a variety of decorative silver objects during this period. ㅤ the piece displays some small bruises to the stem together with a couple of historic hard-solder repairs to the open wirework. These repairs remain secure and functional and are consistent with the delicate construction and age of the object. ㅤ the surfaces retain an attractive bright patina and remain free from later presentation inscriptions or monograms. ㅤ an unusual surviving edwardian dressing-table accessory, particularly appealing to collectors of antique silver, hat pins and early 20th-century personal accessories.
