This impressive example is numbered 118/250, making it a particularly desirable piece for collectors of moorcroft and contemporary british art pottery. The design brings together two recurring sources of inspiration for rachel bishop: butterflies and poppies. Four highly stylised poppies emerge against a rich, deep-blue ground, separated by contrasting ivory panels. Each ivory panel contains a delicate hanging poppy bud surrounded by stylised foliage, while beautifully rendered butterflies are positioned throughout the composition. Some appear amongst the ivory panels, while others rest upon the leaves within the blue ground. The resulting design is characteristic of bishop's sophisticated interpretation of the moorcroft tube-lined tradition, combining strong art nouveau and florian-inspired influences with a distinctly contemporary palette. The deep blue ground provides a dramatic backdrop for the ivory, green and floral decoration, while the hand-applied tube lining gives the surface its characteristic raised, tactile quality. At 16½ inches high, this is a particularly impressive example. Its tall, elegant proportions make it equally suitable as a standalone decorative object or as a statement vase within a sophisticated interior. There are no chips, scratches, cracks or other significant damage visible. The vase bears the modern drilled red-dot mark associated with second-quality moorcroft pieces. However, despite this designation, no obvious manufacturing fault or significant imperfection has been identified upon careful inspection. The vase is offered without its original presentation box. Please examine all photographs carefully, which form an integral part of the condition . Rachel bishop – “study in blue” rachel bishop is a senior moorcroft designer whose work is characterised by her highly stylised interpretations of flowers, foliage and natural subjects. In “study in blue,” bishop brings together two subjects particularly associated with her artistic vocabulary: the poppy and the butterfly. The composition has a distinctly florian character, drawing upon the flowing floral arrangements and naturalistic rhythms that have long been associated with moorcroft's artistic heritage. The combination of the intense blue ground, ivory panels, stylised poppies and delicately positioned butterflies gives the vase a particularly sophisticated and timeless appearance. A striking collector's piece the combination of its exceptional 16½-inch height, limited production of only 250 examples, number 118/250, rachel bishop design and traditional tube-lined decoration makes this a particularly impressive moorcroft vase. A wonderful addition to a collection of moorcroft, british art pottery and tube-lined ceramics, and equally suited to a grand mantel, console, cabinet or contemporary interior. A memorable gift for a significant anniversary or special occasion — if one can bear to part with it. See less
