The table is fitted with two useful drawers to the front, providing convenient storage for smaller household essentials while maintaining the balanced and symmetrical appearance of the piece. Both drawers retain their original decorative brass handles, attractive surviving details that contrast beautifully against the warm tones of the oak and contribute to the established character of the table. A particularly notable feature is the extensive carved decoration found throughout the piece. The finely executed detailing creates considerable depth and visual interest, reflecting the bold architectural influences associated with Gothic Revival design. The table stands on sturdy square legs united by a substantial supporting stretcher, providing excellent strength and stability while giving the piece a confident and well-balanced stance. The oak has matured beautifully over time, displaying particularly attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and appealing tonal variation throughout. The depth of colour further accentuates the carved decoration and gives the table considerable period character. Very well made and of good quality, the table demonstrates accomplished traditional craftsmanship throughout, particularly evident in its intricate carving, substantial construction and carefully considered proportions. At 108 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the table provides a generous usable surface while retaining versatile proportions. It could function beautifully as a side table, hall table, library table or distinctive occasional table. The combination of two practical drawers, original decorative brass handles, extensive Gothic-inspired carving, substantial stretcher and richly matured oak makes this a particularly desirable and characterful example. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable carved Gothic style oak side table combining impressive decorative craftsmanship, practical storage and beautifully matured timber within a distinctive and timeless design.
