A handsome 19th-century English pedestal desk, finely crafted from walnut and distinguished by its blue leather writing surface, nine-drawer configuration and beautifully figured timber.
The generously proportioned rectangular top is inset with a rich blue leather writing surface, providing an elegant and practical workspace while creating a striking contrast against the warm tones of the walnut.
The desk offers substantial storage through nine drawers, arranged as four drawers to each pedestal with a larger central drawer positioned above the kneehole. The drawers retain their original brass handles, adding attractive period detail and complementing the richly coloured timber.
Both pedestals are fitted with castors, allowing the substantial desk to be repositioned more easily when required.
Particularly appealing is the walnut itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Rich colour and a mature patina developed through generations of age and use give the desk considerable depth and character.
Solidly constructed and presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin.
For easier transportation and installation, the desk separates into three principal sections: the two pedestals and the writing top.
A timeless and highly functional example of traditional English office furniture, offering generous storage, an excellent working surface and considerable decorative presence. Ideally suited to a study, library, home office or sophisticated professional interior.
