The hall stand is richly carved throughout, with particularly striking Green Man masks forming an important element of the design. These sculptural details give the piece a powerful architectural character and reflect the Victorian fascination with Gothic and traditional decorative motifs. The imposing upper section incorporates a central bevel-edged mirror surrounded by ten coat hooks, providing generous hanging space for coats, hats and other accessories while creating an impressive focal point. Below the mirror is a useful worktop positioned at approximately 88 cm high. Beneath this sits a single drawer providing convenient storage for keys and smaller items, followed by an open shelf and a one-door cupboard offering further practical concealed storage. To either side are dedicated umbrella and walking-stick compartments, complete with their original metal drip trays. These surviving functional details contribute considerably to the authenticity and period character of the stand. Throughout, the oak displays particularly attractive natural grain, a rich warm colour and an established patina, beautifully complementing the extensive carved decoration. The substantial construction and attention to detail are evident throughout this imposing piece. Standing an impressive 229 cm high and measuring 123 cm wide, the hall stand has considerable architectural presence and would create a magnificent focal point within a substantial entrance hall, reception area or period interior. Presented in great antique condition for its age, with appropriate signs of historic use, and complete with its key.
