The beautifully shaped kidney-form top gives the table its distinctive silhouette and is surrounded by a raised pierced brass gallery, creating an elegant decorative border while emphasising the refined French character of the piece. A single drawer is incorporated beneath the top, its front embellished with a finely painted decorative scene that forms an attractive focal point. Further brass mounts and ornamental detailing appear throughout, providing a luxurious contrast against the rich mahogany. Fine satinwood stringing is carefully inlaid into the mahogany, introducing a lighter contrasting tone and further demonstrating the attention to detail invested in the construction. The table is raised upon graceful cabriole legs, creating an elegant flowing profile. A beautifully shaped lower shelf follows the character of the upper section and provides additional space for books or decorative objects while visually uniting the legs. The mahogany displays attractive natural grain and rich, warm colour throughout, beautifully complemented by the golden tones of the brass and lighter satinwood inlay. Very well constructed and presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. Measuring only 54 cm wide, this is a particularly versatile and highly decorative piece. Its combination of kidney-shaped form, painted decoration, brass gallery and delicate inlay makes it ideally suited as a side table, lamp table, occasional table or statement accent within a drawing room, bedroom or sophisticated interior.
