The rectangular top is the focal point of the piece, beautifully decorated with contrasting amboyna and satinwood inlay. Fine satinwood stringing further defines the composition, creating an intricate and sophisticated surface that demonstrates the quality of the cabinetmaking. The table is raised upon slender tapered legs enriched with finely executed carved detailing. The legs retain their original brass castors and are united by a decorative cross stretcher, providing additional stability while creating an elegant and beautifully balanced silhouette. The mahogany displays attractive natural figuring and deep, warm colour throughout, providing a rich backdrop for the lighter satinwood and highly figured amboyna. Extremely well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. An unusually decorative and sophisticated example of 19th-century English furniture, suitable as a side table, occasional table or statement accent within a drawing room, library or refined contemporary interior.
