The hinged octagonal top opens to reveal a fitted sewing interior divided into multiple compartments, originally intended for organising threads, needles, sewing accessories and other small personal items. Today, the compartments would work equally well for jewellery, keepsakes or collectibles. The workbox is raised upon an elegant tapered pedestal with a turned central section, flowing into a beautifully carved tripod base. The sculptural support gives the table a graceful silhouette and considerable decorative presence despite its relatively compact proportions. The rich dark timber displays attractive grain and a wonderfully established patina, while the unusual eight-sided workbox makes the piece particularly distinctive among Victorian occasional furniture. Originally conceived as a practical sewing table, it could now serve beautifully as a jewellery table, lamp table, occasional side table, decorative workbox or statement accent piece within a traditional or eclectic interior.
