The chair is distinguished by its solid, round backrest with a horizontal slot cutout, supported by a moulded rail and shaped bracket at the base. The wide plank seat is formed from a single board and retains the natural grain and warm tone of the cherrywood.
Four tapered, splayed legs provide a sturdy and practical stance typical of Swiss vernacular furniture of the period. The construction is straightforward and robust, with visible pegging and joinery consistent with its age and origin.
A characterful and functional example of early 19th-century Swiss peasant seating, well suited to a country or rustic interior.
