A charming 19th-century view of Brooklyn’s tree-lined streets, from the celebrated book Picturesque America (D. Appleton & Co., New York, 1872–74), edited by William Cullen Bryant. The composition shows three vignettes: a brownstone-lined promenade with a footbridge, a view of Clinton Street with a church spire, and a shaded sidewalk with a horse-drawn carriage and women in period dresses.
This is a hand-colored wood engraving. Many versions of Picturesque America were printed in black and white, but this one is in color, which gives it much of its charm.
It is presented in a period Victorian “crossed-corner” stick frame — a classic Eastlake/Adirondack design — and newly matted in an (acid-free) cream mat that complements the print’s warm coloring.
Perfect for a Brooklyn brownstone, gallery wall, or anyone who loves New York history.
