The table incorporates a traditional extending mechanism and is accompanied by its original winding handle. Three additional leaves allow the table to expand from a substantial 170 cm when closed to an impressive 315 cm when fully extended, providing considerable flexibility for both everyday dining and larger gatherings. When fully extended, the table creates an exceptionally generous dining surface, making it particularly suitable for entertaining, formal dinners and substantial dining rooms. When the additional leaves are removed, it retains beautifully balanced proportions for more intimate use. The table is raised on substantial turned legs, giving the piece a commanding yet elegant presence. Each leg terminates in its original brass and porcelain castors, an especially attractive period detail that also allows this considerable table to be repositioned more easily. Particularly impressive is the mahogany itself, displaying beautiful natural grain, rich warm colouring and established character throughout. The expansive tabletop provides an excellent opportunity to appreciate the quality and figuring of the timber. The substantial construction, extending mechanism and refined detailing demonstrate the quality of craftsmanship associated with well-made Victorian dining furniture. At 133 cm wide and extending to an exceptional 315 cm in length, this is a true statement dining table with considerable presence, ideally suited to a large dining room, country house, period residence or sophisticated contemporary interior. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable and impressive example of Victorian dining furniture, combining richly figured mahogany, three extension leaves, its original winding handle and substantial turned legs with original brass and porcelain castors within a magnificent and highly versatile design.
