An elegant early 20th-century mahogany display cabinet of particularly attractive proportions, featuring a bowed glazed façade, shaped glass panels and graceful Queen Anne-style cabriole legs. The cabinet is beautifully constructed with a rich mahogany frame surrounding expansive glazing to the front and curved sides. Slender astragal divisions and subtly shaped glazing create an especially refined appearance, while the moulded cornice is surmounted by a restrained carved central ornament. The interior provides three generous display levels and is lined in a cream-toned patterned fabric, creating an elegant backdrop for collections of porcelain, crystal, silver, objets d'art or decorative accessories. The extensive glazing allows pieces to be appreciated from multiple angles while maintaining the cabinet's light and sophisticated appearance. Raised on four elegant cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, the cabinet displays the restrained Queen Anne Revival influence popular in quality English furniture of the early 20th century.
The original key is retained, and the door opens and closes smoothly. The cabinet is understood to have been acquired from a royal-associated residence near Oxford Street, London. This history accompanies the piece as provenance by repute and adds an intriguing dimension to an already highly decorative cabinet. Presented in very good antique condition, with minor marks, rubbing and other age-related wear consistent with its age and use.
