An oak side chair with a shaped crest rail over five tapered spindles, set between turned stiles with acorn-style finials. The front posts rise above the seat into rounded caps, and ring-turned legs are joined by turned front stretchers. The seat holds a 12" embossed leatherette medallion with a heraldic beast framed by leaves, trimmed with decorative nailheads.
Embossed medallion seats like this were a popular feature on American oak chairs in the early 1900s. The pressed design added a bit of drama to an everyday dining or hall chair. At just under 10 lbs, it's an easy accent piece for an entry, bedroom, or desk.
