A distinctive antique Fairbanks balance scale featuring a warm red-orange painted finish, a substantial cast iron base, and a beautifully decorated wooden weighing pan. The pan showcases hand-painted cream and yellow blossoms with green foliage against a rich terracotta-red ground, lending the piece a charming folk-art character.

The cast iron base bears the raised Fairbanks name, identifying the historic American manufacturer known for its weighing equipment. Traditional mechanical details include a graduated balance beam, suspended counterweight, and circular weighing platform, showcasing the functional craftsmanship of an earlier era.

The richly colored finish has developed an appealing aged appearance, with scattered paint loss, darkened wear. The contrast between the industrial cast iron construction and the decorative floral pan makes this an especially characterful display piece. This scale tells a story all its own, its timeworn patina and hand-painted floral details offering a glimpse into a bygone era.

Ideal for a country kitchen, pantry, antique shop, farmhouse interior, or collected vignette, this scale brings a wonderful sense of history and old-world charm to a space. A distinctive addition to a collection of antique Americana, vintage shop accessories, or folk-art objects. See less
