This is an elegant vintage tea or wine set, meticulously hand-carved from dark horn (likely buffalo horn). The set consists of one teapot and four matching small cups.
The teapot features a stout, bulbous body decorated with a raised relief carving of the classic Chinese motif "Magpie on Plum" (Xique Deng Mei)—a pair of magpies perched on flowering plum branches, symbolizing joy and good fortune. The handle and spout are carved with organic, stylized textural details.
The material exhibits the characteristic natural grain and subtle striations of horn, with a deep, lustrous black finish that shows lighter golden-brown flecks when the light catches it. The cups are simple, smooth, and unadorned, contrasting beautifully with the carved teapot. This set is both a functional tea service and a beautiful display of traditional craftsmanship.
