An exceptional late 19th-century Victorian humpback (dome top) packing trunk, distinguished by its uncommonly bright and well-preserved decorative finishes. This striking antique piece is wrapped in a vibrant cobalt blue and gold stylized floral lithograph paper, highlighted by heavy black iron strap bands and ornate foliate-patterned metal corner brackets. Supported by solid hardwood slats running along its distinct rounded top and front panels, this trunk perfectly balances authentic historical character with dramatic visual appeal, making it an excellent statement coffee table, blanket chest, or entryway focal piece.
Interior Details & Accents
The hinged dome lid opens to an extraordinarily clean, dry wood-lined interior. Fixed prominently to the center of the lid is its original pastoral lithograph portrait depicting a traveler leading a horse through a scenic mountain valley. This piece remarkably retains its original removable fitted wooden nesting tray. The tray features an integrated lidded compartment upholstered in rich burgundy velvet, bordered by a shimmering purple patterned trim and a delicate Victorian lithograph print card showcasing a young boy in a naval cap.
