Each plate is hand-painted with naturalistic leafy decoration, creating an attractive botanical composition across the porcelain surface. The fresh green tones and organic forms provide an elegant contrast against the lighter porcelain ground and give the pair a distinctive decorative character. Chinese cabbage is a recurring subject within Chinese decorative arts and is often associated with prosperity, abundance and good fortune. The combination of auspicious symbolism and accomplished hand-painted decoration makes these plates particularly appealing as both decorative objects and collectible examples of late Qing porcelain. Measuring approximately 19 cm in diameter, the pair has an attractive cabinet scale and would display beautifully together on stands, within a porcelain collection or incorporated into a decorative wall arrangement. Both pieces are signed and retain the subtle irregularities and surface character associated with handmade antique porcelain. They are presented in good antique condition with general age-related wear consistent with their period.
