Finely hand-painted in the characteristic Chinese Imari palette, the charger combines rich iron-red tones with underglaze blue and contrasting enamel decoration. The broad surface provides an expansive canvas for the intricate composition, creating a highly decorative piece with considerable presence. Chinese Imari porcelain developed in response to the popularity of Japanese Imari wares and became an important element of Chinese export porcelain during the 18th century. The combination of bold colour, detailed hand-painted ornamentation and generous proportions made these pieces particularly desirable decorative objects.

At 39 cm in diameter, this is a substantial example that displays beautifully as a centrepiece, on a stand or mounted vertically as part of a collection of early Chinese ceramics and Asian works of art. The charger retains authentic evidence of its considerable age, including historic staple repairs, several rim chips, some of which have previously been filled, and two hairlines visible to the reverse. These historic repairs and imperfections form part of the object's antique character.
