The composition captures a powerful sense of movement, with the horse raised dynamically on its hind legs while the mounted figure maintains a commanding posture above. Considerable attention has been given to the modelling throughout, from the musculature and flowing mane of the horse to the clothing, features and attributes of the rider. Expertly cast in bronze, the sculpture displays extensive surface detail and a rich, naturally developed patina that enhances the depth and definition of the modelling. An unusual feature is the two-part construction, with the rider designed as a separate removable element from the horse. This construction provides additional insight into the casting and assembly of the work. The substantial vertical proportions and dramatic equestrian subject give the sculpture considerable decorative presence despite its relatively compact footprint. Presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin.
