The cabinet features a glazed front door opening to reveal two internal shelves, creating three useful display levels for ceramics, glassware, collectibles, objets d'art and other treasured pieces. The striking red interior provides a dramatic backdrop to displayed objects and contrasts beautifully with the rich tones of the surrounding walnut, giving the cabinet considerable visual presence. Particularly noteworthy is the decorative treatment throughout. Fine satinwood stringing is complemented by intricate inlays executed in a variety of contrasting woods, demonstrating the attention to detail and accomplished cabinetmaking evident in the piece. Attractive brass mouldings provide an additional layer of decoration, introducing a warm metallic contrast against the richly coloured walnut and enhancing the sophisticated Victorian character of the cabinet. The cabinet stands on elegant turned legs, giving the piece a graceful and well-balanced silhouette while complementing its refined proportions. Throughout, the walnut displays particularly attractive natural grain, rich warm colouring and established character. The combination of richly figured timber, contrasting inlays, satinwood stringing, brass detailing and the vibrant red interior creates a cabinet of considerable decorative distinction. with a width of 76 cm and shallow depth of only 32 cm, the cabinet provides generous display capacity while occupying relatively little floor space, reflecting the practical proportions traditionally associated with pier cabinets. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable Victorian pier cabinet combining richly grained walnut, extensive contrasting inlay, fine satinwood stringing, decorative brass mouldings, glazed display space and a striking red interior within an exceptionally elegant form.
