Standing an impressive 39 cm high, the vase is richly hand-painted with polychrome decoration, combining the characteristic greens, reds and contrasting enamel tones associated with famille verte and wucai porcelain. The extensive decoration creates a lively composition across the generously proportioned body while retaining the refinement associated with Qing dynasty ceramic production. The classical baluster form provides an elegant foundation for the elaborate painted decoration, with the strong colours contrasting beautifully against the porcelain ground. Its substantial scale gives the vase considerable decorative presence without becoming overly imposing. Dating to circa 1800–1849, the piece is an attractive example of early 19th-century Chinese decorative porcelain and would sit beautifully within a collection of Qing dynasty ceramics, Asian works of art or as a standalone statement object. The vase remains in good antique condition commensurate with its considerable age. There is a small chip to the underside of the rim and a drilled hole to the base, with general age-related character consistent with its period. A highly decorative Qing dynasty vase combining impressive scale, traditional hand-painted decoration and the rich colour palette for which famille verte and wucai porcelain are admired.
