A fine george v sterling silver cream or milk jug, hallmarked birmingham 1912 and made by the renowned silversmiths deakin & francis ltd. The jug is fashioned in an elegant helmet form, inspired by georgian silver of the late 18th century. A finely punched decorative border enhances the upper edge, while the graceful scroll handle is enriched with a beautifully modelled leaf-capped terminal. The body is raised upon a circular stepped pedestal foot, giving the jug an elegant elevated profile and balanced classical proportions. Inscribed discreetly to the underside “reproduction of 1775,” the piece was intentionally created as a faithful early 20th-century interpretation of a george iii period design, reflecting the renewed appreciation for georgian silver during the edwardian and george v eras. The jug bears full birmingham hallmarks for 1912 together with the maker’s mark for deakin & francis ltd, the historic birmingham firm established by brothers-in-law stephen henry deakin and john horace francis. Crafted entirely in sterling silver, the jug has a net silver weight of approximately 110 grams. Presented in very good antique condition with only minor surface marks consistent with age. There are no noted holes, bruises, damage or repairs, and the piece remains free from later presentation inscriptions or monograms. The interior is particularly clean and the jug is ready for use or display. A refined example of early 20th-century english silver, combining quality birmingham craftsmanship with an elegant 1775 georgian revival design.
