Measuring approximately 35 cm in diameter, the charger has a commanding scale and beautifully balanced circular form. The extensive porcelain surface provides an excellent canvas for the hand-painted blue decoration, with rich cobalt tones contrasting elegantly against the lighter porcelain ground. Dating to before 1800, the piece displays the refined decorative character associated with 18th-century Chinese blue and white porcelain. Its substantial proportions make it particularly effective as a cabinet piece, table centrepiece or wall-mounted decorative object within a collection of Qing dynasty ceramics and Asian works of art. The charger is accompanied by a hardwood display stand, allowing it to be presented vertically and appreciated as a decorative work of art. The piece retains authentic evidence of its considerable age. Two sections have historically been reglued and there are several chips around the rim. These imperfections are consistent with its antique character and considerable age. A substantial and highly decorative example of 18th-century Chinese porcelain, combining impressive scale, traditional underglaze blue decoration and genuine Qing dynasty character.
