Originally conceived by jacobsen in 1957 for the sas royal hotel in copenhagen, the aj series is celebrated for its uncompromising geometric profile, functional construction and distinctly architectural character. Its clean lines have made the design an enduring classic of danish modernism. This example features a sleek black powder-coated steel construction with the characteristic angled stem and sharply defined conical shade. The adjustable shade allows the direction of light to be controlled, combining practical task lighting with the sculptural simplicity for which jacobsen's work is renowned. The restrained black finish emphasises the lamp's silhouette and makes it particularly versatile, equally suited to a mid-century modern interior, contemporary study, bedside setting, executive office or carefully curated design collection. Manufactured by louis poulsen, the lamp retains the sophisticated balance of form and function central to both jacobsen's design philosophy and the scandinavian modern movement. Presented in beautiful condition and described as having been stored from new, making it an especially appealing example for collectors of important 20th-century design. Material black powder-coated steel and metal measurements displayed in photos.
