The composition presents an idyllic gathering of finely dressed figures within a lush landscape. A gentleman kneels before a seated figure in the foreground, while an elegantly dressed lady appears on horseback beyond, accompanied by further riders, attendants and hunting hounds. Abundant foliage, flowers and distant woodland create a wonderfully detailed backdrop and give the scene considerable depth. Woven in a sophisticated palette of soft greens, golds, ecru, beige and muted peach tones, the tapestry has the warm, gently aged appearance associated with traditional European wall hangings. The numerous figures, horses and animals create an engaging narrative quality reminiscent of aristocratic hunting and leisure scenes. The central panel is surrounded by a substantial acanthus and foliate-patterned textile border, complementing the naturalistic subject while providing an effective architectural frame for the composition. Fully lined and complete with its decorative wooden hanging rod and large tassels, the tapestry is ready for display and would make an impressive feature within a drawing room, library, hallway, country house or traditional interior.
