A fine william iv sterling silver cream or milk jug by the celebrated london silversmith william eaton, fully hallmarked for 1834. Of substantial lobed ovoid form, the jug combines richly modelled decoration with elegant regency-influenced proportions and retains its original gold-washed interior. ㅤ the body is beautifully formed with pronounced lobed contours and hand-chased domed panel decoration, creating an attractive interplay of polished and sculptural surfaces across the sterling silver. ㅤ the upper section is framed by an elaborate gadrooned serpentine corded border, following the shaped outline of the rim and emphasising the flowing character of the vessel. ㅤ a substantial scrolling handle extends gracefully from the body and is enriched at its upper junction with finely modelled acanthus-leaf decoration. This classical detail complements the gadrooned border and provides the jug with an elegant sculptural profile. ㅤ the vessel is raised upon a stepped serpentine panelled foot, echoing the lobed construction of the body and creating a beautifully balanced silhouette when viewed from every angle. ㅤ particularly attractive is the survival of the original gold-wash gilding to the interior. The warm gilded surface provides a striking contrast against the bright exterior silver while also reflecting the high-quality finish of the piece. ㅤ the jug carries london hallmarks for 1834 together with the maker's mark of william eaton, placing it firmly within the reign of william iv and providing a precise attribution to one of the notable english silversmiths working during the period. ㅤ
with a net sterling silver weight of 268.3 grams and a liquid capacity of approximately 390 millilitres, the jug is notably substantial while remaining practical for its original purpose. ㅤ the piece remains in very good antique condition, displaying only minor age-related surface marks and wear. It is free from notable damage, bruising, holes or repairs and remains without later presentation inscriptions or monograms. ㅤ the jug does not leak, retains a beautiful bright patina and is clean and ready for practical use or decorative display. ㅤ a handsome example of william iv silver combining william eaton's craftsmanship, substantial sterling silver construction, classical ornament and a beautifully preserved gilded interior.
